What happened: A policeman from Sveti Nikole attacked and injured a married couple in the city
centre. According to the husband’s allegations, the policeman broke the glass on his vehicle without
any reason and started kicking him and hitting him with his fists, after which he grabbed his wife,
who was sitting next to him, by the neck. The event took place around midnight after the celebration
of SDSM’s victory in Sveti Nikole, when the couple stopped at a crossroads. The couple are SDSM
activists. According to the policeman’s allegations, a VMRO-DPMNE supporter, the couple provoked
him and allegedly he was previously attacked by around one hundred SDSM activists, who came
in front of his building, urging him to come out and damaged his car. They tried to get into his
apartment which was when he went out to see what was happening. According to the policeman’s
allegations, he was the target of an attack, because during the pre-election silence he prevented
SDSM activists from distributing campaign materials.

Response of the local authorities: The MoI’s response to the MHC request for public information
confirmed this incident, and stated that the incident was connected with incident no.59 of this
Annex. Moreover, the MoI stated that complete official documentation was submitted to the Basic
Public Prosecution Sveti Nikole, however at the time of sending the reply, the MoI had not been
notified about the measures taken and the legal qualification of the act.
