What happened: In Skopje, on Str. Alija Avdovikj, in bus no.65 in the direction from the neighbourhood
of Chento to the village of Stajkovci there was a fight.
At the bus stop near the Primary School 25th May, a group of around ten juveniles pushed a 17-year-
old boy from the village of Smiljkovci, student in the 4th year of the Secondary School ASUC, out of the bus and physically attacked him hitting him with fists and kicking him in the head and body. At
one point, the attackers hit him with a hard object in the head, after which the group disbursed. The
Emergency Medical Ambulance took the boy to the General City Hospital St. Naum Ohridski where
he received medical treatment, after which he was sent home to recover.

1. Assumed difference in ethnicity – the incident took place on a bus which transits through areas
populated by people of different ethnicities, it is possible that the ethnicity of the perpetrators was
different to the ethnicity of the victims.
2. Nature of the violence – the incident took place in public;

Response of the local authorities: The MoI’s response to the MHC request for public information
regarding this incident stated that the SIA Skopje had submitted a written notification to the Basic
Public Prosecution Skopje for the reported criminal act of Violence in accordance with Article 386
from CC (CU. no. 10002/17).
Impact on the victim(s) and the community: This incident calls into question the ethnic coexistence
between the two largest communities in the country.
