Juvenile attacked on a street in Skopje (verified)

What happened: A sixteen-year-old boy was physically attacked by 5-6 unknown males aged 16-20.
The attackers punched him using their fists and kicked him in the body and head, after which they
left the scene.

Brief description of the event with bias indicators: In this incident, the bias motive is ethnicity,
nationality or language, while the bias indicators are:
1. Assumed difference in ethnicity – due to the fact that the incident took place in an area inhabited
by a mixed ethnic population, it is possible that the ethnicity of the perpetrators was different to the
ethnicity of the victims.
2. Nature of the violence – the incident took place in public;
Status of the case: Under investigation/ Misdemeanour charges are expected to ensue.
Response of the local authorities: The MoI’s response to the MHC request for public information
regarding this incident stated that the duty officer filed a report on the pressed charges along with
five official notes on information received from citizens. Moreover, the response stated that SIA
Skopje is taking measures and activities for clarifying the disruption to public order, after which
pursuant to the Law on Misdemeanours against the Public Order a request to initiate misdemeanour
charges will be filed before the authorized section in the Basic Court Skopje 1.
