What happened: Immediately after the end of a football tournament at the level of secondary schools
from Skopje, in the secondary school “Zef Ljush Marku”, at the last bus stop of bus no. 9, the students
from the SPS Ilinden were approached by a group of about 30 people, most of them students in SPS
“Boro Petrushevski”, who by using various objects, attacked the students from SPS “Ilinden”. Five of
the total of nine students went to see the school principal and informed him about the incident,
whereby he reported it to the EIK Skopje. The students who had sustained injuries, were sent to CH “Naum Ohridski” to get medical treatment. The persons D.M. (18) and D.A. (18) were found to have
sustained severe bodily injury, while B.S. (18), M.N. (18) and N.S. (18) were found to have sustained
bodily injuries. MoI’s daily bulletin stated that they had taken measures to fully clarify the incident.
Date, time and location of the incident: 7 February, around 15:30, in the vicinity of the secondary
school Zef Ljush Marku.

Brief description of the event with bias indicators: The bias motive in this incident which took place
immediately after the sports match, is ethnicity, citizenship or language, and the bias indicators are:
1. Assumed difference in ethnicity – due to the different ethnic origin of the students studying in the
said schools, it is possible that the members of the two groups were of different ethnicity;
2. Nature of the violence – the incident took place in public.
Status of the case: Unknown.
Response of the local authorities: The MoI’s response to the MHC request for public information
regarding this incident stated that regarding this criminal offence, SIA Skopje had submitted a
written notification to the Basic Public Prosecution in Skopje about the criminal act “Violence”,
punishable under Article 386 from the CC. KU. No. 1347/17.
Impact on the victim(s) and the community: These types of incidents call into question the safety
in the country in general, the coexistence of different ethnic groups in the society and the safety of
people attending or near sports matches.
