What happened: The external office for criminal affairs in Gostivar filed a criminal charge against A.S. (17) from the village of Cegrane, due to the reasonable suspicion for committing the crime of “threatening with a dangerous weapon during a fight”. On October 4, he was involved in a fight with S.R. (18) from the Republic of Croatia, residing in the village of Dobridol, in the yard of a secondary school. During the fight A.S. tried to injure S.R. with a sharp object, but he was prevented in his intention.
Brief description of the incident with bias indicators: In this incident the bias motive is the different ethnic origin and the fact that the involved spoke different languages, with the bias indicators being:
- Ethnicity – the perpetrator and the victim belonged to different ethnic community
- Citizenship – the involved in the assault have different citizenship
- Language – the involved in the assault spoke different languages
Impact on the victims and the community: These types of incidents call into question the general safety in the country and the cohabitation among different ethnic and linguistic groups in the society, as well as, between domestic and foreign citizens.
